Meet Our Tutors

Mission Statement

Zach Neeley started Atlas Tutoring with nothing more than a few clients and a lot of ambition. Having been in the tutoring industry for a year and a half at that point, Zach had seen what worked and what didn’t. Building Atlas from scratch, Zach envisioned a company that provided affordable, high-quality tutoring that’s consistent and reliable. Additionally, Zach created Atlas as a response to the one-size-fits-all model that big tutoring companies tend to use. Zach has also eschewed the “generalist” model that many tutoring companies use in favor of using a “specialist” model: all Atlas tutors are specialists in their subjects. In simpler terms, all Atlas tutors either specialize in math- or English-related subjects to encourage them to focus on their areas of expertise. 100% independently owned and operated, Atlas’s mission has stayed the same since Day 1 of its founding: getting students ahead and producing results.

Meet the Director

Graduating from Trinity University in 2021 with a degree in political science, Zach has been tutoring students since June 2021. Specializing as an English, History, and Government tutor, Zach has worked with clients from middle school to the graduate and professional level. Zach enjoys working with students at multiple levels and from a diversity of backgrounds as he has worked with students from across the United States and the world, working with international students based in countries ranging from China and Malta to Bangladesh and Canada. Nowadays, Zach mainly specializes in working with high school and college students on subjects related to political science, proofreading, English, test preparation, college admissions, and US History.

Zach’s tutoring philosophy is simple: create an open, fun, relaxed, and inclusive atmosphere while holding the student to a high standard. Zach believes that it is important for the student to believe they can tackle difficult material and feel interested—rather than intimidated—during the learning process. Zach is deeply invested in his students’ success and is always willing to help them achieve their goals, whether it’s to develop and hone a skill, build confidence, raise a GPA, write a stellar essay, or get into a dream school.

Alen John

Alen John

Alen John is a recent graduate from the University of Houston and holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. A certified math teacher, Alen has been teaching and tutoring mathematics since September 2019 and currently has 5 years of teaching experience. He mainly works with students from kindergarten up to high school, tutoring everything up to Calculus.

Alen’s tutoring philosophy is rooted in the belief that every student has the potential to succeed. He believes that each student is unique and possesses different learning styles and abilities, and as a tutor, it is important for him to identify these individual differences and tailor his approach accordingly. He also believes in creating a supportive and comfortable learning environment and feels it is essential for students to feel safe to ask questions and make mistakes without fear of judgment. Math can be intimidating for many students, but by breaking down complex problems into manageable steps and providing continuous positive reinforcement, Alen believes that it will build self-assurance in their abilities. Lastly, frequent examples and practice problems play a crucial role in Alen’s tutoring philosophy. Through multiple examples and frequent practice, he gauges students’ progress and identifies areas where they may need additional support or clarification and works on ensuring that they have a thorough understanding of the math concepts they struggle with.
